Beard growth and care: what deserves a closer look?
Start with one distinction: has your beard always been sparse, or have you recently lost hair? That difference matters more than choosing a “growth” product.
New patches deserve assessment
Alopecia areata can cause bald patches in the beard. A dermatologist can assess the cause and discuss treatment. A patch does not automatically mean that you need a transplant. Source
Keep everyday care simple
Wash the beard and the skin beneath it gently, moisturize for your skin type, and comb carefully. These habits support skin comfort and grooming; a cosmetic beard oil should not be presented as a proven treatment for hair loss. Source
What about minoxidil?
A randomized trial has investigated topical minoxidil for beard enhancement. That is not a guarantee of a fuller beard, or a reason to copy a scalp-treatment routine onto your face. Discuss suitability and possible irritation with a clinician before considering it. Source
Useful questions for a consultation
Explain when the change began, whether it is spreading, and any skin symptoms or products you use. Bring older photographs if available. Ask what the likely cause is, which options fit that diagnosis, and how progress would be assessed.
