Hair mesotherapy: understand the treatment before deciding
Scalp injections that may be considered as part of a hair-loss plan, with the ingredients, evidence and alternatives discussed before treatment.

Overview
When hair starts to thin, it helps to understand the cause before choosing a treatment. Mesotherapy is a way of administering substances into the scalp through small injections. Whether it has a useful role in your care depends on the diagnosis and the specific preparation being proposed.
What does mesotherapy involve?
The term describes an injection technique, rather than one standard medicine. Different preparations have been studied, including medicines and mixtures of other ingredients. They should not be treated as interchangeable: a finding about one preparation does not establish that another will work in the same way.
Before treatment, the clinician should explain exactly what will be injected, why it is being considered and what is known about its benefits and risks. A label such as ‘vitamin cocktail’ is not enough to make an informed choice.
Where it may fit in a hair-loss plan
Studies have reported improvements with some mesotherapy preparations, but the evidence is limited and protocols vary. It is not possible to promise that a course of injections will stop hair loss or restore hair in every patient.
At Ulusan Clinic, assessment comes before a treatment plan. The cause and pattern of hair loss, scalp health, medicines and previous treatments all matter. Established options may be more appropriate, and any underlying condition or deficiency should be addressed on its own merits.
The appointment and possible side effects
If mesotherapy is proposed, the plan should set out the preparation, treatment area, expected course and how the response will be reviewed. Tell the clinician about allergies, medicines, pregnancy or breastfeeding and any scalp irritation. Do not stop prescribed medication without advice from the prescriber.
Small scalp injections can cause discomfort, redness, tenderness or bruising. Infection and allergic reactions are possible, and additional risks depend on the substance used. Hair loss following some injection procedures has also been reported. Seek medical advice for increasing pain, spreading redness, discharge or other unexpected symptoms.
Assessing whether it is helping
Agree how progress will be assessed before committing to a long course. Photographs taken under similar conditions can make changes easier to judge. If there is no worthwhile improvement, the treatment plan should be reconsidered rather than continued indefinitely.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is mesotherapy the same as PRP?
The terms are not interchangeable. Mesotherapy refers to an injection technique; PRP is a preparation made from the patient’s own blood. To understand the treatment being proposed, ask what is being injected and how it will be administered.
Can it replace my current hair-loss treatment?
That depends on the diagnosis and the proposed preparation. Do not replace a prescribed treatment with scalp injections without discussing the decision with your doctor.
How many sessions will I need?
There is no single schedule that applies to every preparation and patient. Ask for the proposed number of sessions, review points and total cost before starting.
